Choosy Perspective: “The Muppets” Blu-Ray Pick

Posted by Derek

It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights…

It’s time for my most anticipated film of 2011 to finally come home to Blu-Ray and DVD. The Muppets! Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, Rowlf, Chris Cooper, Animal, Dr. Teeth, Walter, Statler, Waldorf (I can keep this up all day…)

One of the best Muppet films ever is finally yours to own and watch over and over again with your loved ones or just the young at heart. The Wocka Wocka Value Pack features the Blu-Ray, DVD, Digital Copy, and a download for The Muppets soundtrack, of which “Man or Muppet” just won an Oscar for Best Original Song!

This Wocka Wocka pack is truly stacked with all kinds of behind the scenes fun, like bloopers, deleted scenes (it’s a start Disney, but we know there are more! WHERE ARE THEY?!) a documentary on the making of the film, audio commentary from the writers and director, an extended look at what made Tex Richman so mad at the Muppets in the first place, and much much more – including previously unreleased spoof trailers!

This is one you will no doubt watch over and over again for years to come as The Muppets are finally back in the spotlight with a host of cameos, great music, and humor for all ages. Jason Segel has finally brought our beloved friends back to where they belong, on the big screen and now into your homes with this amazing special feature packed set.

The Muppets hits shelves tomorrow, pick up your copy from Disney today!

Choosy Perspective: “Justice League: Doom” Blu-Ray Pick

Posted by Derek

Justice League: Doom gets a lot of things right. A LOT. It’s a lot more enjoyable than any of the recent titles that’s come out of the DC Animated Universe. I loved Batman Year One and All Star Superman, but with both I was just left wanting a little more. That’s the only real problem with these DC titles, we get to the good part, and it’s over. Makes me wonder what we’ll be left with when The Dark Knight Returns happens after Superman vs. The Elite later this year.

‘Doom’, however, is based on the “Tower of Babel” storyline which pits the Legion of Doom against the Justice League of America using protocols to take down the team that were designed as a fail safe by Batman. Great, right? The immediate things you’ll love: Kevin Conroy returning as Batman. Tim Daly returning as Superman, and Michael Rosenbaum ‘returning’ as Barry Allen (this time). Also great is Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and Phil Morris as Vandal Savage (why are you reading this anymore?! Go watch it!)

This film is the last project done by the late (and great!) Dwayne McDuffie who died almost a year ago today, as of this writing. Dwayne’s work really shines through in ‘Doom’ and there is an amazing featurette on the DVD and Blu-Ray that I personally think is one of the most well done and fitting tributes I’ve ever seen DC pull off. He was a great man, a great writer, and a great influence on the comic book realm. He’s missed, to say the least.

Rounding out the set, as DC usually does with these titles, is a look at Superman vs. The Elite (an off the beaten path title, if you ask me) which will loosely be based on “What’s So Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?” from Action Comics about 11 years ago. Time’s going to tell on that one.

Justice League: Doom hits shelves on February 28. Order yours today.

Geek Out Loud – Episode 57 – It’s Time To Light the Lights

Steve and Derek are joined by special guest Graham Hancock and we devote an entire episode to the return of The Muppets to theaters worldwide. We went live for this one, so the audio is a bit wonky. All in all we had a great time talking about a movie that we all enjoyed. Spoilers abound, so if you haven’t seen the movie, you may want to hold off on listening.
