While I feel for the writers - the reality is - studios will simply pass this fee along to end users - us.

Those 19.99 DVDs will become 20.03 DVDs...

The major studios will probably be content to have reruns for the next few months (think - no salaries to pay = more revenue) -- and entertainment "starved" consumers will continue to watch -

Now would be a great time for a major cable company / network to make a break from the entire system -

Imagine an ala carte cable setup (where you could pick the channels or shows that you wanted to pay for) - produced by independently operating production companies - who have negotiated (independent of a union) contracts w/ their writers / performers / etc.? I think you'd see market-forces at work - and end users would wind up with better products at better prices...

Supply and demand --- ROCK!

Hey Steve. That YouTube video is an excellent illustration of how insignificant the increase actually is that is being asked for by the writers!

I cannot believe that the networks/studios are not budging. Do they not realise the impact the strike will have? And yes, what about us geeks? Do they not think of us?

I don't want Smallville/Heroes/Lost etc to be compromised by this situation - so I sincerely hope something is done and the matter is resolved before too long...

Great post Steve - I'm off to sign some kind of petition now!
